Dear All,

Now that the evenings are unfortunately drawing in very quickly, our lovely summer evening runs around the lanes of Goatsmoar, Smallgains, Paddams Green, and similarly our Cross Country routes are no more.

Therefore when you attend the club evenings on Tuesday and Thursday, can you please run in light (white or yellow preferably) clothing, or clothing with plenty of good reflective detail, or better still a florescent bib. If you have not got a bib then I strongly advise or suggest you invest in one. They can be purchased from our kit man - Ricky Lee - for just under a fiver I believe, or from any recognised running shop or online. I am sure you will agree this is a small price to pay to be safe and to be seen.

Even though a majority of our runs for the next 6 months or so, will now be on pavements in and around the High Street area, we still cross roads, and still go down unlit roads.

Please also exercise caution when out running and do not suddenly dart of a pavement to cross a road because you are keen to keep up with the group or person ahead of you. Remember also if you are running as a large group, to come down to one or two abreast at most especially in the High Street, as in the past there have been collisions with people coming out of Restaurants, who do not expect to be confronted by a wall of runners bearing down on them.

I will on most Tuesday's and Thursday's keep reminding you about this, especially if I see people wearing dark clothing who intend to go out on the roads. As regular members of the club will realise, this is something I feel very strongly about, and I will go on about it to make the point as some people do not seem to think it is a problem to dress like the invisible man on a foggy evening!!

If you are doing the Hill sessions over at Queens Park or the sessions on the fields behind the clubhouse, you should still wear high visibility clothing, as our coaches should be reminding you.

The above obviously also applies when out running in the dark on non-club evenings. You are still associated with, (and if you like) representing the club, and any accidents or unpleasantness will in all probability be reflected back to the club.

Now that we are encouraging younger members into the club, we should also be setting good examples to them, while at the same time ensuring we adhere to our own best practice.

Kind regards and safe running

Dave Sweet - Club Secretary
